Summer News from HMJ...

Posted by Siobhan Morley on May 18, 2014 at 12:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Greetings Dancers

Hope you are enjoying this glorious weather - quite appropriate perhaps, now that Harthill Modern Jive & Latin Dance Club (HMJ) is closed for the summer.

CLOSED ....BUT NOT QUITE!!  As many of you are aware, the Harthill Village Hall will be closed for re-furbishment soon and we now know when the work will take place.

So, following a suggestion from Terry (of the Chesterfield group), we are planning to run 2 SUMMER FREESTYLE DANCES, one before and one after the re-furbishment.

This will be one way we can keep in touch whilst HMJ is closed. If you are not away on your jollies & wondering what to do with your Wednesday evenings, then do come along and bring your friends too!

The first freestyle will be on Wednesday 18 June, and the second on Wednesday 20 August.  Usual times apply (7.45 - 10.15pm). Admission charge will depend on numbers turning up, but we don't expect this to exceed £5 per person, hopefully much less!

Terry will also have tickets on sale, at both these nights, for his 50's & 60's Charity Dance at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield on Saturday 27 September.  The night will include live performances from the legendary Dave Berry & the Cruisers and The Cadillacs as well as dance music from DJ Mark.  So come along to the Freestyles and be sure to get your tickets!

Also, another way of keeping in touch on Wednesdays is to join up with a few other friends from HMJ at the Handsworth Social Club, Hall Road, Handsworth S13 9AG.  This is a FREE ballroom & latin dance practice night and non-members are welcome.  Carol, myself and a few others are considering giving it a try this Wednesday 21 May, so if you are thinking of going too, please let me know by phone, e-mail or text.

Finally, thank you to all for supporting HMJ over the last series and for a smashing final dance last week.  Thank you also for the lovely card, gift & flowers.  We hope you will return and join us for the new series when we re-open on Wednesday 17 September.

In the meantime get the Bar-B-Q's on and keeeeeeeep dancin'

FREE PARTY NIGHT & SUMMER BREAK

Posted by Siobhan Morley on May 10, 2014 at 10:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Hope to see you all at our 'End of series' FREE party night next Wednesday 14 May.

This will be a social freestyle night where you can Jive, Rumba, Salsa, Cha-cha & Tango the night away!

Carol & Sheila will be kindly providing some light refreshments and there will be the usual soft drinks available.  You are also welcome to bring your own 'tipple' if you wish.

We can extend the finishing time a little (to 10.30pm) if there is sufficient interest, otherwise usual times apply.

Harthill Modern Jive & Latin Dance Club will then be closed for the summer BUT we will be re-opening with a new weekly series on Wednesday 17 September.

Hope to see you then.  In the meantime have a great summer and thankyou for all your support.

Best wishes & keeeeep dancing!

Posted by Siobhan Morley on April 20, 2014 at 8:45 AM Comments comments (0)

HAPPY EASTER DANCERS !

Hope you are enjoying the holiday and not eating too much chocolate !

Just to remind you HMJ will be open this week, Wednesday 23 April, as usual.  This will be a free night and you are welcome to introduce any friends, so that they can see what we get up to.

As always there will be a Modern Jive class and we will be re-visiting the Rumba in the Latin class.  Usual refreshments available and normal times apply.

This current series will end for the summer, with a free party night on Wednesday 14 May.  We plan to re-open after the summer break on Wednesday 17 September, with a new weekly series taking us up to Christmas.  Please sign up on the sheet, which is on the reception table, if you are able to support this on a regular basis.  Alternatively you can email us.  New dancers are always welcome.

Thank-you for supporting what has been our most successful series to date.  But if you no longer wish to receive emails from HMJ, send us an email with the message 'UNSUBSCRIBE' and we will remove your details from our contact list.  You will still be able to see what's happening by visiting our website: harthillmodernjive.webs.com.

Best wishes & keeeeeep dancing.

KILLAMARSH LANE CLOSURE - DIVERSIONS IN PLACE

Posted by Siobhan Morley on March 19, 2014 at 5:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Hi Dancers

Hope to see you at dancing tonight but please be aware that Woodall/Killamarsh Lane is closed and that diversions are in place.  This affects those of you who usually travel to Harthill via Killamarsh from the West.  The closure is due to a collapsed drain under the road which has been the cause of flooding recently.

Regards. Derrek

RESCHEDULED FREE PARTY DANCE - 7.45-10.15 - 19/02/14

Posted by Siobhan Morley on February 14, 2014 at 5:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Hi Dancers

We were very sorry to have had to cancel the party dance this week, but we think the decision was fully justified when we experienced the deteriorating weather conditions.

We think the cancellation procedures worked very well on the whole. An e-mail was sent out just after 5pm (to those of you on our contact list), it was put on the website as the latest news item and Carol did a lot of phoning round.  Thanks to all who contacted others and passed on news of the cancellation and apologies to anyone who, for any reason, didn't get the message in time.

The good news is that we will still hold the FREE party night next week,Wednesday 19 February (weather permitting!!!), so don't pack away your MASKS and RED stuff just yet.  Hope to see you then.

Finally, just another reminder that admission will be only £3 per session from the next regular HMJ night until further notice.

Thankyou for your continued support & keeeeeeep dancing!

Best wishes

FREE PARTY DANCE - 7.45-10.15 - 12/02/14

Posted by Siobhan Morley on February 7, 2014 at 8:45 AM Comments comments (0)

Greetings Dancers

Just to remind you that next Wednesday, 12 February, is our Free Party Night at Harthill Modern Jive & Latin Dance Club.

OK, we know its a couple of days early for Valentines, but you are invited to wear something RED (or BLACK) and maybe a mask (optional).

Usual times apply (7.45pm - 10.15ish). Nibbles & usual soft drinks provided, but please b.y.o. if you prefer something stronger.

All past & present members welcome, as are potential future folk interested in seeing what it's like at HMJ.

We are also pleased to declare the result of the recent poll, where members voted, by a small majority, for a reduction in the admission cost of our regular sessions.

This is a result of excellent attendances recently, so the new admission price will be only £3.00 per session, until further notice.

Thankyou for your continued support.

Thankyou & keeeeeep dancing!

This will be a FREE night where you are invited to wear something red or black and a mask - optional dress code.

Why don't you invite friends and family, who are interested in coming to HMJ, for a free 'taster session'?

There will be the usual free soft drinks but there will also be some light 'nibbles' provided for the tables.
